Q: Can Airolite products help me earn LEED credits for a project?

A:

Specifying Airolite products may contribute to "points" measured under each of the five categories of the LEED certification process. Please consult an Airolite Representative or Airolite team member for more information or visit the Green/LEED section of our website.

Q: How long do you need to quote a job?

A:

The time needed to provide a quotation is determined by the size of the project and the information provided.  Projects that are well-defined with specifications, and that have a takeoff provided, can be turned around in as little as a few hours to a day. Complex large projects that must be taken off from downloaded Architectural drawings will take longer, and ultimately depends on the nature of the project.  These quotes can take from 2 to 5 days to complete.  Please inform your Estimator of your due date on all quote requests, and we will work with you as best we can to meet your goals.

Q: What is the best way to specify sizes of Airolite louvers?

A:

Always specify width x height.

Q: What is the difference between face velocity and free area velocity?

A:

Face velocity is the total CFM divided by the total area square footage used. Free area velocity is the DFM divided by the square footage of the free area. (Free area velocity is the industry standard.)

Q: Does Airolite manufacture steel louvers in shapes other than rectangular?

A:

No. Airolite fabricated metal stationary and drainable louvers are not available in shapes.

Q: If I order a louver with a custom color, what process do I need to follow?

A:

Airolite requires a physical color sample be submitted to our office for matching. We will then have the color chip sent to our paint vendor to match samples for your approval. Turnaround time for this process typically takes 3 to 4 weeks.

Q: Does custom color matching have an additional cost?

A:

Yes. Custom colors cost more than the standard colors found in our finishes & Colors brochure. However, there is no additional cost for the matching process.

Q: How long will it take to obtain Airolite standard color samples?

A:

Standard color samples are generally stocked and can be mailed within one to two days of your request.

Q: What are the finish warranties for Airolite products?

A:

When supplied on Airolite's aluminum products, baked enamel finishes carry a one-year standard warranty and Kynar® 500 finish carry a ten-year standard warranty. As an industry standard, finishes supplied on fabricated steel louvers do not carry any warranty. Anodized louvers carry various finish warranties, depending on whether a Class I or Class II process is used.

Q: Can I get a 20-year warranty on Kynar® finishes?

A:

Yes. In most cases we can supply a 20-year warranty for aluminum products finished with Kynar 2-coat, 3-coat or 4-coat. However, due to the many variables (color, product, product use and location) consult an Airolite Representative or Airolite team member for more information.

Q: What is the Florida Building Code (FBC), and Miami Dade?

A:

A specific set of codes that govern louver performance and their construction in order to deal with the impacts of hurricane force wind driven rain, and wind born debris.

Q: What is AMCA?

A:

AMCA stands for The Air Movement Control Association. AMCA was founded in 1971 and is a not-for-profit industry association formed by a group of product manufacturers from around the world to provide users with accurate, reliable and comparable product data. Not all louver manufacturers choose to have their louvers tested for performance, and therefore cannot produce actual performance data. I recommend that you only specify/purchase louvers that have been tested in accordance with AMCA standards.

Q: What is AMCA 550?

A:

AMCA 550 is AMCAs version of the TAS-100 test for high velocity wind driven rain which is used for the FBC. Essentially, they’re spraying 8.8” of rain at the face of the louver while simulating wind speeds of 35, 70, 90, 110mph, and if more than 1% of the rain gets through than the louver fails.

Q: What is AMCA 500-L?

A:

AMCA 500-L refers to the laboratory methods of testing louvers in the areas of water penetration, wind driven rain, air performance, and air leakage.

Q: Does Airolite have any louver models that are AMCA 540 and AMCA 550 Listed?

A:

Yes, Airolite has several models that are AMCA 540 Listed for wind-borne debris impact and AMCA 550 Listed for High Velocity Wind Driven Rain. These models are SCC550, SCC901, SCC901MD, SCH601MD (with VDC-40 damper), SCV501MD, K8206AMD, and SCV660MD.

Q: All louver manufacturers are pretty much the same, why should I use Airolite?

A:

  • Airolite, has more AMCA Certified louvers than any other manufacturer in the industry. More louver options allow us to better meet your project requirements.
  • Many members of our team have extensive industry experience. Specifically, having worked for window/curtain wall manufactures, various fenestration companies, and competing suppliers. These past experiences allow us to look past just our products, and better understand the needs of glaziers, metal panel installers, and other related trades.
  • We have a great design assist program. We enjoy helping architects, builders, and installers translate their design intentions into reality. Our extensive industry experience allows us to integrate our products in ways that are both insightful and cost effective.
  • We can assist with meeting the performance needs set forth by MEP, while retaining architectural design. Many times, Architects are given basic information with respect to performance attributes such as Free Area, and Pressure Drop. Inherently, this can reduce the louver options for the architect which also results in fewer aesthetic options. We can take MEP performance requirements and provide Architects with more options.
  • We’re able to reduce problems, save time, money, and bring about excellent project out comes. This is due to our local relationships with Architects, GCs, Developers, and Subs and are ability to stay on top of communication with all necessary parties. We don’t walk away after the P.O. is cut!
